As one of the founders of the IPA, Mark has nurtured the growth, standards, and integrity of the Association since its inception in 1993. Mark continues to strive to achieve excellence personally and for powerlifting acting as the CEO of the IPA. Mark has been running powerlifting meets since 1974, and was the first to promote powerlifting to the military holding the first meet at Andrews AFB.

His competitive lifting career spanned 25 years beginning in 1971 toying with the sport of Olympic-style weightlifting, and soon moving on to powerlifting where he achieved his highest accolades.  In conjunction with his weightlifting and powerlifting competition, he achieved the status as Maryland’s High School Football All-American, All-State winner, and ultimately played football for the University of Maryland as the offensive center.  In 1974, Mark won the Teenage National Powerlifting Championships in the 198 lb. weight class and the Collegiate National Championships as an 18-year-old. 

As a college student, Mark won the Collegiate Nationals in the 220 lb. weight class, earning the Collegiate National Record with a 717 lb. dead lift.  He was a Junior Olympic Champion and his combined Olympic and Powerlifting totals rank him in the top five of all time. ( read more)

Ellen Chaillet
IPA COO, Records Chair, Membership Chair

Ellen is a veteran with the International Powerlifting Association having been involved with its development and management since 1993. She has been running powelifting meets since 1994, and shares responsibility for organizing and orchestrating four IPA powerlifting events including the IPA Strength Spectacular. She continues her role as Records and Membership Chair, while overseeing the Association’s communications efforts.  She works with Mark Chaillet as one of Chaillet’s Private Fitness’ trainers specializing in strength training for athletes and kettlebells.

Ellen started powerlifting competitively in 1981. She accomplished her “Elite” total and earned multiple IPA world records in her 20 years of competitive powerlifting. She was ranked multiple times in annual Top 10 Lifter Lists, and was ranked on the Top 10 All-Time list during her career. She brings 30 years as a competitive strength athlete and coach to the team.

Ellen graduated Kappa Tau Alpha with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism with a minor in Marketing from The University of Alabama. Ellen worked for York Barbell Company in many capacities, most recently as the Company’s Director of Marketing.

Dan Blankenship

Dan joins the executive team with a history of 17 years of competitive powerlifting, competing nearly exclusively in the IPA for most of his lifting career.  Having totaled "Elite" across four classes and professional in two, Dan is no stranger to the rigors of training and preparing for the platform. 

Previously, Dan lived in Ohio and trained at Westside Barbell Club for two years during which time he earned his first "Elite" total.  Dan loves powerlifting and powerlifters and will strive to make the IPA a fair, exciting and well-run organization in which to compete.  

Dan works in the biotechnology field as a consultant and owns a real estate holdings business. Dan is a Magna Cum Laude graduate of The Ohio State University with a dual Bachelor's degree in Marketing and Transportation & Logistics.

Mr. Matthew Watson, SVP of Information Technology & Chief Technology Officer


Matt Watson

Matthew Watson serves as the IPA's Senior Vice President of Information Technology and Chief Technology Officer (CTO).  He brings over 11+ years of Information Technology experience to the IPA.

As the SVP of Information Technology and CTO, Mr. Watson oversees IPA's use of information technology to improve program performance and manage risk.  Under the strategic leadership of Mr. Watson, the IPA has invested and continues to improve its enterprise architecture and information systems to provide the most cost-effective and efficient methods to support its membership base and facilitate its Powerlifting competitions.

His most recent position was as a Regional IT Manager with a nationwide long-term nursing facility management company. In this position he traveled across the US with a focus on the Midwest Region, where he integrated disparate green-screen, Wintel and network configurations to help the company quickly achieve IT efficiencies and cost savings.

Currently, Mr. Watson works for the US Federal Government as an IT Project Director with responsibility and oversight of several high profile, technology portfolios.

Mr. Watson received an MS in Information Systems and Business Management from the University of Phoenix in 2010 and a BS in Information System from Penn State.
